After spending a very long period of time as the undisputed champion among fishing lures, the production of the legendary Yamamoto Senko will cease. The Senko burst onto the scene several years ago and quickly became an industry altering bait. Never before had anglers seen a bait do so little and catch so much. It had a tantalizing wiggle that drove fish crazy.

Bass Tatics

Tour Pro and Senko designer Gary Yamamoto has decided to pull the plug on the Senko and go back to the days when he had sole control over the hottest bait on the planet. Within the next couple of weeks, Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits will no longer produce the Senko for retail sales. From that point forward, Mr. Yamamoto and a small number of his ProStaff members will have the only access to them. This news has shocked industry insiders and has left them wandering aimlessly in a state of confusion.

Should we really be surprised? No, we should not be surprised because Mr. Yamamoto is a very successful businessman. Therefore, it is not as if he really needs the extra money derived from the sale of Senkos. By privatizing the Senko supply, he can essentially give himself an advantage over the rest of the field. Once everyone’s stockpile starts to run out, I think we will see Gary Yamamoto dominating the Pro Tour. He will likely go on to win the Classic, Angler of the Year and whatever else is decides to take.

I guess all bass anglers should be thankful that they were at least given the opportunity to fish with such an incredible bait. The Yamamoto Senko will forever be remembered as one of the best lures of all time. It would not shock me if we started seeing entrepreneurs selling Senkos on eBay for obscene amounts of money. These people will start gouging us harder than the oil companies are. It was a pleasure being able to fish with the Senko and I will take with me many fond memories of the fish I caught on them. I am sure going to miss that bait.

I am just kidding the Senko isn’t going anywhere. Nevertheless, can you imagine how sad it would be if this story were true? In this day and age, we can’t take anything for granted. Live life to its fullest.
