» Lake Mille Lacs walleye slot set for 2008 (March 4, 2008)

Anglers who fish Lake Mille Lacs during the 2008 fishing season will be able to keep four walleye up to 18 inches in length. The bag limit of four may include one trophy more than 28 inches.

On May 19, 2006 Gordon Carroll from Willard, NY was fishing on Seneca Lake south of Sampson State Park. He was pulling copper for lake trout. Gordon was taught by a friend how to pull copper about 5 years ago. This time it was Gordons turn to be the teacher. He was fishing with his nephew, 14 year old Josh Brown. The fishing was very good and they caught 5 lakers in less than 2 hours.

Brook trout are a native fish species to NY waters. Once plentiful in most of NY waterways the brook trouts habitat has shrunk considerably for various reasons including acid rains, habitat destruction, and introduction other fish species. The NY State record brook trout weighed in at 4 lb. 11 oz. and was caught by Richard O'Brien on a Worm & Spinner from the Ha-De-Ron-Dah Wilderness Area, Herkimer County on May 21, 2005. The brook trout was adopted as New York's official State fish 1975.
